Below is a sample office visit schedule for expecting mothers.
Please note that high risk pregnancies will most likely require more frequent
visits, along with ultrasounds for growth and testing towards the end of
the pregnancy.
Each mother is unique, so we will determine the best course of action for
you at your initial office visit to ensure you and your child are healthy
and happy.
- FIRST VISIT: Usually at 6-8 weeks, we will discuss your
obstetrics history.
- 10 WEEKS: You and I get to know each other.
We will do a complete physical including a pap smear with cultures. We should hear a fetal heart beat. If we don't upon examination, then an ultrasound will be ordered.
This can be very reassuring to new moms. Once a fetal heart beat is seen,
there is a less than 5% chance of spontaneous miscarriage!
- 15-20 WEEKS: We will offer you a quad screen.
This is a laboratory blood draw that measures four hormones in the blood.
Based on the results we can interpret if you are at low or high risk for
having babies with chromosomal abnormalities, neural tube defects, and/or
abdominal wall defects.
- 24 WEEKS: We address any and all questions you may have.
- 28 WEEKS: Optimal time for 3D/4D scan, offer repeat STD
testing, Glucose screen, and blood level.
- 30 WEEKS: We check blood pressure and urine dip to evaluate
for evidence of preeclampsia.
- 33 WEEKS: We check blood pressure and urine dip again
to evaluate for evidence of preeclampsia.
- 35 WEEKS: GBS screening.
- 37 WEEKS: Now considered full term, we discuss your intimate
desires for the labor and delivery of your unborn child.
- 38-40 WEEKS: Cervical exam and discussing labor plans.
It is such a blessing for all involved! Your special gift is about to arrive!
